Industrial goods term means different things to different types of businesses. Industrial products are used in companies to make other products, which they then sell. Some are used directly in the production of the products for resale, and some are used indirectly. Industrial goods are classified on the basis of their use.Industrial goods also carry designations related to their durability. Durable industrial goods that cost large sums of money are referred to as capital items. Nondurable industrial goods that are used up within a year are called expense items.

After raw materials, follows the category of semi-manufactured goods, once again a prime demand for business who later modify those goods and sell them to the final consumer. The third category comprises of parts or more precisely spare parts or segments that could include fixtures, blades for cutting machines, ax handles etc. Next is the category of supplies that is required to run the workaday operations of the business. It is inclusive of things like toiletries in stock, office stationery, fuel etc. The last category is a heavy-duty one, which deals in machinery and equipment that are sold by businesses to another business.
